Sorry guys! I took a long break from my food blogging.
I was very busy with my trip to San Francisco, my half marathon run. And then it was getting back to regular life and catching up on flamenco classes.
Enough said. I will update my blog shortly (Just found 10 blog drafts started before my trip!). And stay tune for my San Francisco food updates! 🙂
This was my first half marathon and I was happy that I finished it. I got through the hilly and beautiful course of San Francisco. I felt good to be able to accomplish something and to fundraise for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
I got a Groupon for a 4 courses Summer Lunch at Nu and it was about to expire. By that time, a few of my friends who got the coupon had already used them. So I decided to do a solo lunch by myself; i.e. a date with myself.
Since all the outdoor tables had been taken, I was quickly sat near the patio and presented the menu below.
It looked alright. I ordered a glass of Blue Mountain Pinot Blanc. Afterall, a date isn’t a date without a little wine. 🙂
It took a while for the food to come, so I enjoyed myself by slowly sipping my glass of wine and enjoying the summer breeze. The view wasn’t bad at all.

After my training session (I think it was tempo running) on a Wednesday evening in August, I was walking in downtown trying to find a place for dinner by myself. I walked to Davie and suddenly remembered that Thai Basil had been on my wish list for more than a year!!! So Thai Basil it was!
I arrived at this little restaurant at Thurlow and Davie. It was an hour from closing and they were still very busy with a few tables of dine in customers but with many more takeout orders. I remembered reading about a spicy minced pork/chicken served on rice dish and couldn’t find it anywhere on the regular menu. So I tried to described it to the server and we didn’t seem to communicate. So I continue to study the menu and 2 mins after, she brought me this lunch menu with pictures! Pad Gra Prow it was! It’s actually not even on their lunch menu. It’s listed as a “also available ask the server” item. 🙂

It was a sunny day in July. And we decided to go to Steveston for a late lunch. It’s been too long since we had the burgers so I will just post the photos with brief comment here.
D ordered Organic burger.

Aug 1, Monday – Sunny
Golden Onion is now closed down.
It was a relaxing BC Day holiday and we drove to Coquitlam to meet up with our friend, A, who runs a baby store there. We did some private shopping after the store was close :P. A drove us to a near by Korean restaurant that he likes. It’s Golden Onion, a Korean-Chinese fusion restaurant.
Similar to Japanese food, a lot of Korean food was an adaptation and modification of food from some other part of the world (if you don’t know Korean curry is another example). There are a few typical Korean “Chinese” dishes that are available in many Korean restaurants, e.g. Jajangmyeon (noodles served in black bean paste), Tangsuyuk (Koreanized version of sweet and sour pork), Jjamppong (spicy noodle soup). Most of us who had these dishes before considered them as Korean food.
Upon arrival, I was totally surprised by how nice the decor of this restaurant.
My friend already told me that this place isn’t usually busy but that day it was almost half full! There was just 1 waitress and she was extremely busy. We weren’t in a hurry so we just took our time. A, being a regular there, ordered the food. We had 3 “hot pot” dishes and 1 fried dumplings. Their lunch special looked good as well.
